UN appoints its first ‘alien ambassador’

Mazlan Othman is an astrophysicist from Malasia, and she could be appointed as UN ambassador for Space. She would be responsible to coordinate the dialogue between the humanity and an alien race. Currently, Othman is director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).

Othman’s proposal for its appointment is due to the large number of planets recently discovered that orbit surrounding the stars. According theories, this would increase the chances that the human race will contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life.

It is obvious the chances of extraterrestrial contact are the same as 10,000 years ago. Therefore, the possibilities have not increased. And humans are not more intelligent! In fact, the chances of extraterrestrial contact with intelligent life are relatively few. Please, listen to Carl Sagan talking about it:

Updated [28 September, 2010]: Mazlan Othman has denied the news, published this weekend by the British newspaper ‘The Sunday Times’ and collected by several media on Monday.
