The UN declared Internet access a human right


The international organization urges governments to facilitate access to the network and indicates the main forms of violation of law, among them filtering and blocking of contents.

The General Assembly of the Organization for the United Nations has declared internet access a human right, considering it is a tool that fosters the growth and progress of society as a whole.

The most recent example is the wave of popular revolts, which began in North Africa and the Middle East, all of them diffused through the social networks. All these revolts show that Internet is becoming an essential tool for freedom of expression.

In a statement released by CNN, the UN urges governments to facilitate access to the network. “The only and changing nature of the Internet not only allows to exercise their right of opinion and expression, it is also a part of their human rights which promotes the progress of society as a whole,” said Frank La Rue, organization spokesman

“Ensuring universal access to Internet” must be a priority for all States,” said La Rue.
